Questions

Fire extinguisher service, answered.

How often do commercial fire extinguishers need to be inspected?

Portable fire extinguishers in a commercial building need a professional inspection once every twelve months. That annual service includes a physical examination of the extinguisher, verification that it is charged and undamaged, replacement of the tamper seal, and a dated service tag. We document what was serviced and flag anything that will come due soon so nothing surprises you next year.

What is the monthly check that my staff is supposed to do?

Between annual services, the building owner or occupant is responsible for a quick monthly visual check of each extinguisher: it is in its assigned place, unobstructed and visible, the pressure gauge reads in the green, the pin and tamper seal are intact, and there is no obvious damage or corrosion. It takes a few seconds per unit and is recorded on the back of the service tag. We will walk your staff through exactly how to do it during a service visit.

When does an extinguisher need to be recharged?

Any extinguisher that has been discharged — even partially, even a one-second test squeeze — must be recharged. So must any unit whose gauge reads outside the operating range, or one that fails its annual inspection on pressure or weight. Recharge restores the agent and the propellant charge and includes a new tamper seal and tag.

What is six-year maintenance and why do I need it?

Stored-pressure extinguishers with a rechargeable agent require an internal examination every six years. The unit is emptied, the valve and internal components are inspected, the agent is verified or replaced, and the extinguisher is reassembled and recharged. It catches internal corrosion and caking that an external inspection cannot see. The six-year date is stamped or labelled on the unit.

What is hydrostatic testing?

Hydrostatic testing is a pressure test of the extinguisher cylinder itself, performed on a twelve-year interval for most dry chemical units and a five-year interval for CO2 and water-type cylinders. The cylinder is pressurized well above its service rating to confirm it is structurally sound. Cylinders that pass are re-stamped and returned to service; cylinders that fail are removed from service and we quote a replacement.

Do you offer emergency or after-discharge service?

Yes. If an extinguisher has been discharged, or an inspector has flagged a problem you need corrected quickly, note it when you request service and we will prioritize the visit. Mark your preferred timing as ASAP in the request form and describe the situation in the notes so we can bring the right agent and parts on the first trip.

Do I have to sign a service contract?

No. You can book a single visit with no ongoing commitment. If you prefer, we can set up recurring annual service so your inspection date never slips, and you can opt in to a free reminder before your next annual service is due. There is no penalty for declining either.

How does your pricing work?

You can price routine service yourself on this site in about thirty seconds — no phone call, no sales visit and no contact information required to see a number. Pricing is per unit by service type, with volume pricing applied automatically as your extinguisher count grows and a flat coordination fee for each additional location. A service minimum applies to any scheduled visit. If we find work beyond routine service once we are on site, we explain what is needed and what it costs before we do it.

Can you train our employees while you are here?

Yes. On-site fire extinguisher training can be added to any service visit for a flat price by attendance tier, starting at $99. The session runs roughly 45 to 60 minutes and covers fire classes and extinguisher selection, the PASS technique, when to fight a fire versus when to evacuate, employee questions and a practical demonstration. Participants receive certificates. It is designed to support workplace fire extinguisher education and training requirements; employers remain responsible for their own emergency action plans.
